Gain a sports massage qualification with the UCO

New for 2023/24! Gain an ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage at no extra cost while studying with the UCO.

The UCO has become a registered ITEC centre and, as an added value to studying with the UCO, will be offering all first year undergraduate osteopathy students from 2023 onwards the opportunity to study for an ITEC Level 3 Sports Massage Qualification alongside the degree at no extra cost.

As a recognised industry-standard qualification, the (ITEC) Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage provides students with the practical and theoretical skills to practice as a fully-qualified and insured sports massage therapist and to either gain employment within a health, sports and fitness or leisure setting, or establish their own sports massage business while completing their osteopathic studies.

The course, which would typically cost around £1200 - £1500 as a stand alone qualification is offered to UCO students at no additional charge beyond the M.Ost course fees.

The course leader says;

"This is a really exciting opportunity for UCO students. We recognise that choosing to study for a degree is a significant investment in any student's future, particularly given the current economic climate, and are pleased to be able to offer our students the opportunity to gain a recognised sports massage qualification within the first year of our undergraduate M.Ost programme. Should they wish to, this qualification will allow them to gain an income as a sports massage therapist while they complete their M.Ost studies and enable them to establish a potential client list in preparation for their osteopathic careers once they graduate."

Many of the practical and academic requirements of the Sports Massage Diploma are already built into the first year of the UCO's M.Ost course, including advanced work in anatomy and physiology, patient communication and diagnostic assessment and the principles of soft tissue dysfunction. Additional classes covering further principles of health and fitness and specifical sports massage treatments will be provided free-of-charge for students wishing to gain the Diploma. Students will then need to pass a practical examination and multiple choice exam to achieve the qualification. All sessions will be taught by highly-qualified, practising osteopaths and sports massage therapists.
