UCO students visit Body Worlds Exhibition

On Saturday 19 and Monday 21 January staff and final-year UCO students visited Dr Gunther von Hagens’ Body Worlds Exhibition - recently opened in its new home in London’s Piccadilly.

The exhibition displays real bodies and organs using the plastination process and provides a fascinating view of human anatomy and physiology.

The trip presented an excellent opportunity for our pre-professional stage students to see, in a very real sense, how the body works. They were able to easily apply this to their previous learning in human biology, as well as the different injuries and dysfunctions they are helping patients with weekly at the UCO Clinic.

Part-time student Laura described the hours spent there as brilliant and said how impressed she was that the UCO provided this for students with no charge. She said that as a developing osteopath her instinct was to reach out and see how things felt with my hands and was frustrated by the necessary Do Not Touch signs.

Her colleague Nicolet told us that the trip was truly amazing and said some time later their heads are still full of the wonderful works that were displayed there.
