The M.Ost
Our Master of Osteopathy (M.Ost) degree is delivered over four years on a full-time basis, or five years on a part-time basis, and equips students with all the skills they require to become practicing osteopaths.
The M.Ost builds students’ academic knowledge and practical skills and provides them with extensive clinical experience through the UCO Clinic. On successful completion, students are able to register with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and begin professional practice.
Undergraduates complete a minimum of 1,000 clinical hours through the UCO Clinic as part of their training, beginning with clinic observations and working towards managing their own patient lists in their final years.
Students have access to an unrivalled variety of patients through our busy osteopathic clinic and award-winning community clinics, giving them a strong foundation for life in practice, and allowing them to explore and develop areas of specialist interest.
"Due to its location and facilities we get a good stream of folk to put our skills and knowledge to use before stepping out into the big wide world." ~ Vivien, M.Ost part-time student.
Teaching excellence
Our reputation attracts high-quality staff from the profession. Many continue to practice and are specialists within their fields, bringing with them a wealth of experience and a passion for their subject.
Teaching ratios on our undergraduate programmes are kept low to ensure students are able to benefit from staff expertise – typically practical classes have a ratio of one tutor to every 10 students, while in clinic there is one tutor to every four students.
We are pleased to have retained our overall rating of Silver for the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023 in addition to achieving Gold for student outcomes. Find out more
Foundation courses
For students who are not yet ready to undertake a full undergraduate degree we also offer a number of foundation courses to help prepare for study at this level.
These include our Introduction to Healthcare Sciences (IHS) online course for potential students who may meet the general academic requirements but lack a solid grounding in the sciences, and our one-year Access to Higher Education Diploma which provides a broader foundation for students who come from a non-academic background or have been out of education for some time.
